Colin McDonough joined the University of Northern Iowa department of athletics as Associate Media Relations Director on Nov. 11, 2005. McDonough serves as the primary contact for the UNI football and wrestling programs. As the primary football contact, McDonough composes weekly press releases, writes game recaps and handles media requests for the UNI football team. The 2006 UNI football media guide earned "Best Cover in the Nation" status by CoSIDA. As the primary wrestling contact, he writes weekly press releases, posts match summaries and handles media requests for the Panther wrestling program. McDonough served as the media relations director of the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals in 2006 and 2007, an event in which UNI has hosted the past two years and will host in both 2008 and 2009 in the UNI-Dome. McDonough was named the National Wrestling Media Association's SID/Publicist of the Year in 2006. McDonough also serves as the Director of Media Relations for the Western Wrestling Conference. The WWC is comprised of seven schools (UNI, Air Force, Northern Colorado, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Utah Valley State and Wyoming) and was formed on April 27, 2006. Prior to joining UNI, McDonough worked six years in the University of Northern Colorado's athletic media relations office. He held the position of Assistant Director of Athletic Media Relations in his first two years and was tabbed Director of Media Relations in February of 2002. McDonough was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations in July 2004. A 1998 graduate of Northwest Missouri State University, he served his alma mater as a student assistant SID in 1998. McDonough also served one year as assistant SID/intern at the University of Akron (Ohio) where he was responsible for women's volleyball and softball publicity. McDonough, 32, served as a statistical runner at Super Bowl XXXVII in San Diego at Qualcomm Stadium. He also volunteered at the 2001 NCAA Women's Basketball Midwest Regional and 2004 NCAA Men's Basketball 1st/2nd Round NCAA Tournament in Denver, Colo., at the Pepsi Center. The Osceola, Iowa, native also served as a TotalCaster at the 2000 NCAA Men's Basketball Midwest First & Second Rounds in Cleveland, Ohio, at the Convocation Center. He is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He and his wife, Joni, had their first child, Dalton, on April 27, 2007. The family resides in Cedar Falls.
