Bradley Classic Results

PEORIA, Ill. -- Top-five finishes by senior Traci Hawley and junior Caedryn Schrunk powered the University of Northern Iowa women's cross country team to a fifth-place finish Friday at the Bradley Classic. The UNI men's squad took 10th as a team, led by Dorian Ulrey's 11th-place finish.

Hawley (Ames, Iowa/Ames), who took runner-up honors in the women's race at Newman Golf Course, and Schrunk (Spirit Lake, Iowa/Spirit Lake), who was fifth, both eclipsed UNI's previous school record and now own the two fastest 6-kilometer times in Panther history.

Hawley's run of 20 minutes, 56 seconds shaved 29 seconds off the former 6K record, a mark of 21:25 set by Kari Thilges in 2000. Schrunk took fifth by completing the course in 21:18.  Those runs, combined with finishes of 54th by Andrea Wacker (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Kennedy), 57th by Samantha Nygren (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) and 84th by Jessa Schweitzer (Aurora, Iowa/East Buchanan), gave the Panthers a fifth-place team finish.

Missouri took the team title with five top-15 finishes, followed by Wichita State and Northwestern.

Along with the school 6K record, Hawley also owns UNI's all-time mark in the 4K, while Schrunk is now second all-time in both events, as well.

On the men's side, Ulrey (Port Byron, Ill./Riverdale) was 11th in 25:12 to lead the Panthers, who took 10th in the team standings behind winner Missouri, which boasted five of the race's first 10 finishers.

Senior Chris Lawson (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny) was 36th in 25:48 and was followed closely by fellow senior Mike Clancy (Iowa City, Iowa/West), who claimed 39th in 25:54.  Freshman Corbin Miller (Marshalltown, Iowa/Marshalltown) was 80th in 26:41, while senior Andy Schon (Waukon, Iowa/Waukon) was 94th in 26:56 to round out UNI's scoring.

The Panthers take a break from competition next weekend before hosting the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championships on Oct. 27 at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls.
