Box Score

Bangkok, Thailand - Guard Travis Brown (Richfield, Minn.) scored a game-high 24 points to lead the United States to an 88-51 win over China in men's basketball action Monday at the World University Games.

Brown connected on 9-of-15 shots from the field, including 6-of-8 on three-pointers, to pace Team USA's attack. He was joined in double-digits by Eric Coleman (Maplewood, Minn.) who scored 14 and Jordan Eglseder (Bellevue, Iowa) who added 12 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. The trio of Brown, Coleman and Eglseder combined to connect on 20-of-30 shots from the floor while grabbing a cumulative 19 boards. China was led by Chao Yang who had 17 points.

For the game, Team USA shot 53 percent from the field, including making 11-of-17 on three-pointers, while China made 42 percent of its field goals. The United States also dominated the boards, grabbing 42 rebounds to the Chinese's 16. Nineteen of the USA's rebounds were offensive.

This was the final game in the second phase of play for the United States, with its overall record improving to 3-1 in the tournament. Unfortunately, Team USA will not be moving on to the medal round. Turkey upset Lithuania, 100-89, which forced a three-way tie among the United States, Turkey and Lithuania.

Only the top two teams from each group advance on to the eight-team medal round, and point differential in games played among the tied teams was the tiebreaker that advanced Lithuania and Turkey. Team USA will now play Finland on Thursday, Aug. 16 at 4:30 am (Iowa time) in the first of two games to determine 9th through 12th place in the tournament.
