He was the defensive line coach at Grand Valley State University in 2003 and 2004. At GVSU, Gold coached three-time Division II All-American Keyonta Marshall. Marshall was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2005 NFL Draft.

Gold captured a Division II national title in 2003 when the Lakers scored a 10-3 win over the University of North Dakota.

He served in the same capacity at Wayne State University in 2002. From 2000-01, he was a graduate assistant at Eastern Michigan University assisting the offensive line. In the summer of 1999, he was an assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Michigan while also serving as a student assistant in the spring at Central Michigan University.

Gold played linebacker at Central Michigan four years with his twin brother, Jason (currently a detective in Ann Arbor, Mich.). His youngest brother, Cory, played at Saginaw Valley State (currently a high school teacher in Chicago). His brother, Ian, plays linebacker in the National Football League for the Denver Broncos.

Gold is the son of Celia Gold. He was born April 15, 1977 in Ypsilanti, Mich. He graduated from Belleville High School where he competed in football and basketball.
