Indianapolis, Ind. - University of Northern Iowa senior Jordan Weber has been selected to play in the 2008 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship. Weber, a two-time All-Missouri Valley Conference selection, becomes the first UNI golfer ever chosen for NCAA postseason competition.
Three 54-hole regional tournaments - East, Central and West - will be conducted May 15-17. A total of 27 teams and six individuals not on selected teams are assigned to each regional site. Weber, picked as an individual, will compete in the Central Regional in Columbus, Ohio. Ohio State University is the host school and the tournament will be played on the Scarlet Course.
A native of Bernard, Iowa, Weber posted a 2007-08 stroke average of 71.5, with eight rounds in the 60s, including a low of 64 at the Agua-Caliente Invitational in Palm Desert, Calif. Nov. 11. He also had one victory, earning medalist honors at the John Dallio Memorial in Chicago, Ill., Oct. 1-2.
The top 10 teams and two individuals not advancing on teams will move on from each regional to the championship finals. This year's national championship will be held May 28-31 on the Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Complex in West Lafayette, Ind., with Purdue University as the host institution.
