University of Northern Iowa senior Jordan Weber will represent the Panthers at this week's NCAA Central Regional, with competition beginning Thursday on Ohio State's Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio. The 54-hole tournament gets underway Thursday, with Weber's tee time set for 12:32 p.m. Central.

The competitors will play 18 holes each day starting at 6 a.m. After 54 holes of play, the top 10 teams and two individuals from non-qualifying teams will advance to the NCAA Championships, set for May 28-31 in West Lafayette, Ind.

TEEING OFF

Weber became the first UNI golfer ever selected for NCAA postseason competition when he was added to the field for the NCAA Central Regional as an individual competitor on May 5. A total of six individual players will compete along with the field of 27 teams.

Weber posted a stroke average of 71.5 for the 2007-08 season and posted eight rounds in the 60s, including a low of 64 at the Agua Caliente Invitational in Palm Desert, Calif., on Nov. 11.  Weber also had one victory this season, earning medalist honors at the John Dallio Memorial in Chicago, Ill., Oct. 1-2.

In his last action on the course, Weber tied for 15th place at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championships (April 21-22), posting a solid 73 in the third round to finish with an overall score of 224. He also earned All-MVC honors as the Panthers finished in a tie for sixth in the team race.

ABOUT THE COURSE

Opened in 1938, Ohio State's Scarlet Golf Course was designed by world renowned course designer Dr. Alister MacKenzie, who also designed Augusta National Golf Club, home of the Masters Tournament. The course underwent a major restoration project headed by Ohio State legend Jack Nicklaus in 2005 and 2006. The course is a demanding par-71 that stretches 7,455 yards from the "Buckeye" tees that will be used for the Central Regional.

THE LAST TIME OUT

UNI wrapped up its spring season April 22 at the State Farm MVC Golf Championships in Davenport Iowa on the par-71 Davenport Golf Course. The Panthers finished the tournament tied for sixth place after firing a 304 in the third round, giving them an overall three-round score of 902.

Andy White dropped down the leader board two spots the first day, finishing tied for fourth place with a one-over-par 214. White posted a 75 in the third round.  Wichita State won the tournament by 24 strokes over second-place Southern Illinois, while the Shockers' Connor McHenry claimed individual medalist honors by finishing four strokes better than teammate Dustin Garza, who finished in second.
