Nate Oakland is in his first season as an assistant coach with the women's basketball team. He spent the 2006-07 season as the team's graduate manager.
Oakland's primary duties include working with the Panther defense, off-campus recruiting, film exchange, scouting and assisting with all facets of practice.
Oakland came to UNI after spending one season as the women's basketball assistant coach and the men's and women's tennis head coach at the University of Minnesota Morris.
He was the Panthers' student assistant during the 2001-03 seasons as an undergraduate student at UNI. Oakland then worked as the head girls' basketball coach at Hudson High School for two seasons.
"I am extremely excited for this opportunity. I am honored to work with coach Warren and her staff," Oakland said. "Her vision for this program is to win MVC championships, and I will work relentlessly to do so."
"Nate is a great addition to our staff," Warren said. "He's been extremely loyal to our program, and we're really excited to have him on full-time. He brings a wealth of knowledge of the game. He has great energy and the kids in our program love working with him."
Oakland, a native of Cedar Falls, Iowa, graduated from UNI in 2004 with a bachelor's in sports psychology and is working toward a master's in Education. He is married to former Panther Alex Cook, and the couple lives in Cedar Falls.
